Assignment 4 - Multimodal Presentation: Dorothea Lange
Synopsis:
Dorothea Lange was an American photography director most well known for her documentation of the mass effects the great depression had on the average American citizen. After her big break with the White Angel Bread line photo in 1933, Lange continued her work in the more rural areas that had been affected by the depression, leading to her most well known 1936 photograph titled migrant mother. Lange made great strides in the ethically evaluative as well as interpretive photography categories in her time and inspired many to follow in her footsteps. For this presentation I have chosen to focus on her depression era photography.

How it changed my Perspective:
Lange has changed the way I think about ethically evaluative photography. I had been under the assumption that it was mandatory for the message to be in one’s face, which had driven me away from the category. However, Langes subtlety in her photos brought me closer. The amount of complexity she can show in a single, seemingly simple photo of a mother with her children is awe inspiring and has opened my mind to more perspectives of photography aside from the mainstream methods I had been heavily leaning towards.
Comment on other student's blog(To Zoe Fishkind):
I love the way you specify what inspired your chosen photographer with each image you show, allowing more depth of understanding in the person watching the presentation. I loved being able to look up the inspiration for the photos and getting to compare it to the images in your presentation! You were very good at presenting the information professionally and picked very diverse(both in tone and photography method) and interesting images to display. Great video!
